Why I am a Money Coach
I became a money coach because I felt there was a need and an unrealised desire with many people to have a very different relationship with money.
I witnessed the impact upon the quality of life of my clients a healthy relationship with money could have. I also witnessed how the impact of a dysfucational relationship with money could have on the lives of people.
I believe that a money coaching service can have a real and positive impact in the day-to-day lives of people and this has many knock on effects for the individual's wellbeing, their personal lives in other areas such as family and work. In turn, these benefits impact in the wider community, for employers and society as a whole.
For me, simply helping one person at a time improve their financial situation is my way of making a contribution to humanity which is one of my life values.
Although there is obviously a place and a need for financial products and insurance policies what I learned as a Financial Planner was that most people needed a better relationship with their money and how money can impact their lives in a much more positive and productive way.
What stood out for me was that people’s sense of identity was very wrapped up with money issues. Their perceptions and world view were seen through a money tainted pair of glasses, influencing their feelings, self-image, self-esteem, confidences and competences, fears, beliefs, all would show up (but unseen and unrealised by them) in everyday situations in their lives: their spending habits, savings habits, eating and snacking behaviours, what they bought and why they bought stuff – all of these and much more represented chapters and verses of their individual life stories, for good and bad.
So money was seen both as a friend and foe, lover and hater, creator and destroyer. This multi-personality thing called money was in fact the symbolic representation of our own masks.
Money Masquerades:
I see money as a metaphor a mirror which, invariably reflects back to us our deeper beliefs, fears, behaviours, hopes and dreams. It is this mirror effect that points to the word RELATIONSHIP.
A good coaching experience:
If you go with the idea of masks then you may like the idea that a good coaching experience allows you to look and see the masks that you may be wearing about money. A good coaching experience allows you to unmask and see the truth the mask is hiding. The truth is liberating. It liberates us from the negative thoughts, feelings, decisions and actions we have about money. At the same time the liberation can bring life to new insights, reframe beliefs, and act as a catalyst for new behaviour and thus habits – that produce better results and outcomes.
